Since 1974

Our History

The 1970s are remembered as a time when Turkish citizens travelled abroad for advanced treatments such as open-heart surgery and cancer care. What began as one determined cardiology institute grew, over five decades, into an internationally accredited hospital group.

  1. 1974

    The beginning

With a group of fellow doctors who shared his vision and determination, Prof. Cemi Demiroğlu founded the Haseki Cardiology Institute at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty. Over the years, the institute made significant contributions to cardiology in Turkey — and marked the beginning of a successful journey.

  2. 1989

    Florence Nightingale Hospital is born

Florence Nightingale Hospital was established as a small yet ambitious institution with 50 beds and an annual capacity of 250 open-heart surgeries. Thanks to growing trust and successful outcomes, it expanded to meet international standards — reaching 302 beds and more than 2,000 open-heart surgeries a year, serving across all medical branches including pediatrics, gynecology and ophthalmology.

Gayrettepe & the Comprehensive Cancer Center

Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital and its Comprehensive Cancer Center opened in partnership with American collaborators. The infrastructure also enabled joint boards and conferences with international counterparts via telemedicine — early foundations of the international care the group is known for today.

  4. 1998 – 2006

    A teaching university

Building on years of experience, Florence Nightingale established a university in 1998, later renamed İstanbul Bilim University in 2006 (today Demiroğlu Bilim University). As the first thematic healthcare university in Turkey, it brings research and teaching alongside everyday patient care, with thousands of students enrolled.

  5. Today

    A leading healthcare group

Group Florence Nightingale has become one of the leading healthcare groups in Turkey and the region — placing patient experience at the core of its services without compromising on quality, ethics or science.

Today the group operates JCI-accredited hospitals across Istanbul and a clinic in London, with 804 patient beds and state-of-the-art technology — a trusted destination for patients from around the world.
